Archangel Uriel

Despite the apparent simplicity of its design, this was without a doubt one of the hardest micros I have ever made. But also one of my most favourites.

I wanted the micro to resemble his previous looks, while being particularly tough and imposing without being overly bulky and cumbersome.

Key Features:-

Hair – Originally, I planned to keep the hair as it was but it looked a little bit lifeless so I started playing with the lines and shading until I happened upon the current style. I know it looks a little like a Mullet, but I really like how it looks.

Wings – As the design unfolded, I knew all the existing wings I had weren’t going to suit the look I was going for. That was a problem. I had made wings before, but never like these. Starting them off, I almost gave up and settled for a template set, but I’m really glad I persevered. The wings make like 90% of the imposing presence I sought to convey.

Helmet – Building the helmet, I went for a blending of Uriel’s original helmet design with the variation designed by Nightwing1975. I almost left the helmet open like those designs, but I couldn’t resist the mandalorian feel of the cross shaped visor. So I embraced my inner “Fett” and added the black visor to hide his face.

Armour - I kept the warrior monk feel of the original Uriel desgns, and added some similarly styled armour elements to enhance the design and offer protection against melee attacks without impeding manoeuvrability or agility. The shield and shoulder pads are sturdy while the red sleeve offers protection along the arm as well as adding some much needed colour into the design. I replaced torso armour with a shirt of chainmail under his tunic which would offer protection from most physical attacks without weighing him down. And replaced the leg armour with minimalist ankle braces to protect against sprains or breaks without impeding his speed.

Tattoo – Despite covering the left arm, I felt the tattoo was a key feature of the character so I took some artistic license and flipped it over to the other arm. I imagined it being some kind of Angel magic akin to the tattoos worn by Aqualad in the Young Justice cartoons, which would glow and enhance his powers and the effects of his sword which he holds in that hand. Also, it was hard to tell from the pictures what the tattoo was actually of, so I gave it a fire based design because of Uriel’s title as the “Fire of God”.

Sword – Mostly, I just wanted to shrink the sword down a little bit so it would look more appropriate for a one handed weapon. The wing changes on the hilt were just a cheat to avoid playing with fiddly details. I tried adding the sword to the micro but it upset the perspective of the piece.

Also, concerning his eye scar, I’ve seen some micros with it and some without it so rather than choose one I did both for you
