Description

This is a gift for Jodmos :iconjodmos:. And the very first micro built on this new template. Hope you like it

The basis for this character exists within a Comic-based Universe I’m building around my own characters with its own rules and classifications. In this universe, comics exist like in reality and sometimes influence the design of heroes’ in-world, so similarities in design and aspect to Spider-man are intentional.

I struggled to come up with an idea of what to make, so I’ve attempted to create a new Character persona for him that mixes some of his favourite elements with a Role Play profile we developed together a few years ago. And this is what I’ve come up with – A spider-feral mutant ex cop turned superhero called Apex. I know he’s a bit dark, but blue and red doesn’t scream “Spider” to me, also with the back-story I imagined the more stealthy suit makes more sense... although it’s possible he could make a lighter costume in future when his mission is a little less batman-y.

In my universe, mutants can be divided into three distinct groups:
1. Non-powered: These possess no special ability or unique physical traits that obviously separate them from the masses. Their differences exist only at the genetic level and are easily detectable with genetic tests or bio-scanners.
2. Latent: These possess no special ability or unique physical traits that obviously separate them from the masses until an external force triggers an active mutation usually around puberty or later. These mutations are usually dependent on the situations from which they arise.
3. Innate: These possess some manner of special ability or unique physical traits immediately from birth. These usually manifest as more passive abilities such as Ferals and Psychics.

The Idea:
Anthony is an innate mutant who manifested as a Spider-based Feral. Despite the enhanced abilities he possesses – Including Super-strength, speed and agility as well as an instinctual sense for danger that borders on precognition – he remains mostly oblivious of his being a mutant as he grows up. Leaving full time education, Ant joins the Millennium City Police Department and rises through the ranks to become a detective.
Several years down the road, he stumbles upon a ring of corruption within the force to which he had dedicated himself to; and even his partner was involved. Loyalty was a strong force in Ant’s life that instead of bustling the ring immediately, he first confronts his partner and offers him a chance to get out before it was too late.
Instead of cleaning up his act, the partner creates a paper trail incriminating Anthony which results in his being suspended from the force. As a direct result of the evidence against him, his friends turn their back on him and his girlfriend leaves. With no home and no support, Anthony turns to drink and loses himself at the bottom of a bottle, and with nothing left to lose he drunkenly confronts his former partner at the docks. The fight didn’t last long; but rather than kill him just dumps him on an outgoing garbage scowl and considers the matter over. Anthony wakes up hundreds of miles away reeking of garbage with a hangover that just wouldn’t quit.
He finally hits rock bottom in some skeezy back alley bar where he is approached by a mysterious grey-haired figure – This guy was once a hero himself and now in his winter years regrets having no kids or protégé with whom to pass on his legacy. He listens to Ant’s story and senses the truth of his words – because this guy had some empathy ability. He takes Anthony from the bar, helps him to dry out and makes him fully aware for the first time in his life that he was a Spider based Feral. The mentor uses his experience to help Anthony develop his own heroic style and utilize his abilities to the fullest. He also develops the boots and gauntlets to expand on Anthony’s gifts and the spider-motif. When ready, he would then return to Millennium city as the no-holds-barred vigilante “Apex” - Named so because spiders are an apex predator; they lay their webs to trap their prey, and strike at great speed without warning. In the same way, he will hunt, laying a metaphorical web over the city to trap his prey and gather intel/evidence and then he’ll strike at them one by one from the shadows, tackling crime and corruption in order to clear his name and take back the life they stole from him.

Powers :-
Super Strength – Able to lift between 7-10 tons. This also allows him to jump upwards of 10-15 feet into the air with ease.
Super Reflexes – Lightning quick movements aided by his “Spider-sense”.
Balance and Agility – He possesses balance and grace that would make the world’s greatest gymnasts and acrobats look like amateurs.
Spider-Sense – manifests as an almost omnipresent awareness of the world around himself with an enhanced “twinge” when danger is sensed.
Durability – He possesses superhuman levels of endurance and is able to heal from wounds and injuries at a mere fraction of the time it should take.

Tech Abilities :-
Claws – Both the gauntlets and the boots are equipped with talon-like grips that enable him to climb or grip most vertical structures. (He possesses no natural wall crawling ability, so these fill that void).
Grapple Line – Both gauntlets can fire a steel cable up to 200 feet that can hold upwards of 600-700 pounds without breaking. (He has no practical web-spinning ability nor web-swinging. This grapple line allows him quick ascent and descent. He has an additional line on his belt that allows himself to secure himself to a wall or ceiling while leaving his hands free.
Tranquilizer darts – Can be fired from either. Darts are either filled with a diluted form of spider-venom his own body produces, or generate a small electrical charge to incapacitate any foe.
Adhesive packs – Can be fired from either gauntlet or thrown by hand. Pack explodes on impact, enveloping the target in the super-adhesive substance preventing escape for most criminals.
Tracking Devices – Fired like darts or thrown by hand, these little bugs act first as a GPS locator, and also as listening devices allowing him to more easily gather evidence.
Police Scanner – Built into the gauntlet, allows him to monitor emergency frequencies.

Weapons :-
Dual Tonfa/PR-24 Nightsticks – Acquired during his years as a police officer, he now uses them as his weapons of choice because of their great range of offensive and defensive combat techniques.

Did you know that in some future continuities like MC2, Peter becomes a cop.
